Here we are at Day # 6 of my virtual Run Over To Ellen’s. You probably know that I am doing a fundraising project for Guide Dogs for the Blind by virtually running from my home in Montana to Burbank California to see a taping of the Ellen tv show. To get it accomplished by the end of the year, I need to average 36 miles per week. So far, I’m right on track…although it’s only been 6 days so far…
Anyway, wish me luck, and don’t forget to post your donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind…we only need 30,000 people to donate $1.00 each. If you’d prefer to donate by the mile, $1.00 per mile would be $1,222.25, and 6 cents per mile would be $73.34. Of course, you can donate whatever feels comfortable for you, and if you don’t have one dollar to donate, let me know. I can spot you a dollar and we can arrange some kind of indentured servitude for you to work it off

Running Summary:
Start Date: April 20, 2009
Goal Date: Dec 15-18, 2009 (I think – or whenever we can get Ellen Degeneres tickets to a taping of the Ellen tv show before they stop taping for the end of the year break.)
Total Mileage Required to get to the Ellen tv show taping in mid December, 2009: 1,222.25
Must Average: 36 miles of running per week or 5.12 miles per day.
Mileage Run so far: 23 miles
Mileage To Go To Get There: 1,199.25
We’ll add in the fundraising summary once we get the donation web page up and running.
Here we are…Day 3 of my virtual Run Over To Ellen’s. Added another 6 miles to my total, so 15 miles logged and only another 1,207.25 miles to go to get to the Warner Brothers studios in Burbank to see a taping of the Ellen tv show. I don’t know how far ahead you have to request Ellen Degeneres tickets, but we’re hoping to get four tickets to a taping at the end of the year after I’ve tallied up my last mile of the 1,222.25 miles I have to log to get from my home in Montana to the Burbank studios where the Ellen tv show is taped.
It’s Day 2, and I’ve added 6 miles to my first three yesterday. I have to average about 36 miles per week to make it to the Ellen tv show by the end of the year. Hopefully we can get four Ellen Degeneres tickets to see a taping of the Ellen tv show before she leaves for the end of the year break in December.
We decided to fundraise for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Bill over at Guide Dogs for the Blind has been great, and we’ll be setting up a fundraising link so that it’s easy for everyone to donate at least $1.00.
Here’s the plan…As you know I’m doing a virtual run over to Ellen’s. I want to make it the 1,222.25 miles from my home in Montana to the Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank by mid December to see a taping of the Ellen TV show before the end of the year. I figure mid December is when she’ll be filming the last Ellen TV show before they go on their Christmas/New Year Break, so I’m going to need to average 36 miles running per week in order to make it there by December. Coming off of a back injury this winter it will be a challenge….but that’s what a challenge is for, huh?
We chose to fundraise for Guide Dogs for the Blind while we’re at it. Since I’m legally blind, it seemed an appropriate charity to pick. While I myself don’t need a guide dog, it’s nice to know that if I ever do need one, there are organizations like Guide Dogs for the Blind out there to help me with that. For now, I’m navigating just fine using my white cane.
We set our goal to raise $30,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind. So that means we only need 3 people to donate $10,000 each :0 or 3,000 people to donate $10 each or 30,000 people to donate $1 each. Or of course, some variation of that…I figure pretty much everyone can donate $1 with out too much hardship, and the more each person donates, the better!
Anyway, we’re excited…So we’ll be keeping you posted with the numbers for our fundraising, as well as my mileage and any updates on my quest to get tickets to see a taping of the Ellen TV show.
See you at my regular blog at www.RunnerInsight.com where we put up new posts three times a week about my adventures as a blind runner…
